2 billion bada phones?
According to careace Samsung has already used the Nucleus RTOS on a number of touch phones including the multi-million seller Jet. Further, a quote of one of Samsung’s managers is provided saying:
Additionally, one Samsung director mentioned that “devices having open platform bada is categorized into smartphone, even though it is normal phone.” and “a lot of bada devices will be shown starting from the early next year.”
I wonder if bada might be used on a number of phones that already exist on the market today. Maybe the amount of phones released with bada next year is beyond our estimations. Samsung (ranked 2nd phone manufacturer world-wide and first in US) has the potential of launching 2 billion phones with bada, according to other sources. So even tough their market share among smartphones is moderate – it could grow exponentially.
There are a number of factors that will play an important role here - but first of all the commitment of Samsung to its own platform. “Bada”, meaning “Ocean” in Korean, is said to have been chosen as the name for the new platform to reflect “abundance” (like abundance of the ocean). How abundant will bada be on the market of smart phones?
