Bada Development- How to Start?

We have been receiving many questions from new developers on how to start developing for Bada. In this tutorial, I will try to present the basic steps for the new developers to start sailing in the development ocean.

1- If you have never developed C++ before, then I advice you to spend some time learning it. You don’t have to be a C++ guru in to write Bada applications, but you need to know the basics of pointers, inheritance, virtual functions, polymorphism, and type casting. More knowledge is always useful.

2- If you don’t know how to use Eclipse, then read few tutorials about it. You hate it or you like it, Bada IDE is similar to Eclipse IDE.

3- You need Windows OS for developing Bada applications. We have been receiving information that Linux-based IDE will be available any time soon, but nothing yet. Of course you can use virtual machine for the development but the simulator may become slower. Also, some users have reported problems running OpenGL ES 1.1 tutorials under the virtual machine.

4- Download the IDE/SDK from the official developer site.

5- After you install Bada SDK/IDE, you will find useful pdf documentation files. You can start with:

bada Overview.pdf
bada Tutorial.Development Environment.pdf
bada Tutorial.Fundamentals.pdf
bada Tutorial.UI and Graphics.pdf

5- Badadev tutorials.  Badadev is full of tutorials, you can find very basics and advanced tutorials. You can browse all the tutorials here

6- Help and support at the badadev forums. Do not hesitate to ask any question regardless how basic your question is. You can find tutorials posted by forums’ members, solutions, general discussions and more.

7- Sample projects are available in the SDK. There are more than 40 projects under SDK/Samples folder.

8- Start exploring the API functions to find what you need. IDE/Help/Help Contents/ Bada API reference/ Namespace list.

9- Bada Books.  The first bada book will be released next September according to amazon website [An Introduction to Bada - A Developer's Guide].
