Samsung announces bada OS
The expectations are confirmed, a few days ago Samsung announced an own new Operating System called bada to compete directly with Android, LiMo & Co. This gives a big blow to Microsoft CE and Symbian – systems that will gradually disappear from Samsung’s smart-phones. It is a turn of events that cannot be taken lightly : Samsung, with about 20%, is the second most important player (after Nokia) on the mobile phones market.
This will put the new bada OS right into the middle of the mobile innovation we witness nowadays and make it one of the most important systems before 2012. Days ago, just hours before the announcement, I have seen expectations by the experts of HMC Investment Securities, which predicted the following distribution of operating systems on Samsung phones for the years to come:
My own feeling is that the new bada will be used much more, and I doubt that Samsung will give Android those chances.
Needless to say is that these news give an unexpected range of opportunities for the early adopters on the mobile scene. If you are a developer for mobile devices like myself, you should definitely follow the advances of this new platform.
