Samsung’s new bada OS/phone and list of its incredible sensors
A source has confirmed that the new bada OS will offer an interface to some cutting-edge sensors on the first Samsung’s phone. These sensors include (but probably are not limited to):
- Screen touch sensors (with multiple sub-features / possibilities here)
- Hard Buttons
- Acceleration sensors for all three axes (relative to phone’s body) with a max of 2.5g . There is always a detected earth gravity acceleration vector, which a developer has to take into account
- Tilt (also known as the orientation of the device) according to all three axes (Azimuth, Pitch, Roll)
- GPS, including timestamp, longitude, latitude and altitude
- Magnetometer to measure the magnetic field (earth?) according to all three axes (!!!)
- Ambient, provides timestamp, temperature, humidity and luminance levels
- Proximity, a sensor can tell if there is an “object” nearby
- Weather + forecasts from a weather provider
- Face Detection (from a photo, video or even from a direct camera stream) and Face Recognition (against an internal database of known people)
The motion sensors also provide an additional set of derived advanced motion detection capabilities. Like Snap (all axes), Shake or Double Tap (you can double-touch the phones body _anywhere_, not just the screen)
These features alone make it a pretty lovely set of tools to create a bunch of addicting games and other “junk”
I imagine an app that takes a photo when you throw the phone app and it reaches the “upper” point,… or when the phone falls to the ground (sudden huge acceleration upwards). Way to take a picture of the “last moments” of your phone hehehe… But maybe the same app could be used to take the perfect photo while bungee jumping? There are countless possibilities!
It is said that the Software Development Kit will provide an “Event Injector” where a developer can manually inject these events into the emulator to test the capabilities of an app.

I wonder whether Wave has the weather sensor already implemented. If yes or if it will be turned on in future firmware releases, it beats the iPhone
. Fingers crossed on that feature – try to imagine a weather forecast without the need of an internet connection! That would be something!
